A large part of the responsibility for the unhealthy craze taking deep root in our society lies in the media, particularly broadcast media, which have enormous social and educational influence. They put much emphasis on looks when selecting everyone who appears on their shows, which encourage people to prize looks over all else. The so-called "loser" comment, which put down short men and resulted in an uproar, is a good example for Korea's obsession with outer appearance.
