Chapter 1- (1)

EBSE 생활영어2 2014. 12. 21. 00:50

Like most of us, you probably don't want to wait. Instead, you want more immediate results.

To be sure, future chapter will further discuss the strategies and tips generally described here.

If you are reading a novel for your own pleasure, it's fine to just open the book and start reading, making little or no effort to focus or distribute your attention selectively.

The method is called SQ3R(Survey, Question, Read, Recall, Review), and it reflects everything Robinson knew about the workings of the human mind.

an introduction to the workings of Congress

Predictions about how the author's thoughts will unfold.

It helps to decrease forgetting right after reading.

Since Robinson created SQ3R, other systems have come along, most of them quite similar and distinguished only by the acronym, or initials, used to create the name.

Instead, divide assignments into manageable chunks of fifteen to twenty pages at most. That way, you'll maintain your concentration the entire time it takes to complete that chunk of the assignment.

Try to predict how the flow the author's thought will develop.

Robinson's thought was that whenever students finished a chapter section, they should look away from the book and briefly recite answers to the questions they had posed initially. Recitation was a way of monitoring, or checking, comprehension so that students couldn't trick themselves into thinking they had understood a text they really needed to read a second time.

Introduction

EBSE 생활영어2 2014. 12. 21. 00:20

As the author, I couldn't be happier that Reading for Thinking has earned another edition. Still, revising it was something of a balancing act.

Yet while keeping what worked,I also wanted to respond to suggestions from longtime users as well as current reviewers.

The purpose of these additions is to familiarize students with some of the words bound to appear in their textbooks.

Being able to organize new information into an overarching pattern makes it easier to store that information in long-term memory.

You use overarching to indicate that you are talking about something that includes or affects everything oeveryone.

most important, because of including or affecting all other areas

  1. Computer downtime is an overarching problem in all departments.
  2. The overarching question seems to be what happens when the US pulls out?

They mentioned as well they'd like to see the chapter enlarged to include some of the skills described later in the book, that is, annotating, underlining, and paraphrasing. In responding to those requests~

Although experienced readers are likely to connect pronouns and antecedents without even noticing they are doing it, connecting pronouns to the nouns they stand for can be problematic for many readers.

An antecedent of something happened or existed before it and was similar to it in some way.(선행된 사건, 문법에서는 선행사)

An underutilized resource:

Pages devoted to paraphrasing: paraphrasing

The perfect precursor to Reading for Thinking, Reading for Results lays the groundwork for all the skills introduced in its more advanced sister text.
