Dumpster diving is the practice of sifting through commercial or residential waste to find items that have been discarded by their owners, but that may prove useful to the picker.

의미를 확장하면 대학교 방학을 해서 기숙사에 누가 쓰던
물건을 버리고 가서 거기서 필요한 물건을 찾는 것도
dumpster diving이다. 그리고 매장을 정리한 가게가 두고
간 물건에서 찾아 보는 것도 같다.
