South Korea also has the highest suicide rate in the developed world, which many suggest is related to a high stress focus on education.

Some politicians and educators are questioning whether things have got out of hand. But even parents opposed to this punishing system find it difficult to opt out – their children complain that they can’t keep up if they don’t go to a hagwon(cram school).

[몇몇 정치인고 교육학자들은 이 상황에 대해 어찌할 바가 없는지에 대해 의문을 제기한다. 하지만 이러한 살인적인 교육체제에 반대하는 학부도들도 다른 대안을 찾기에는 쉽지가 않다. 아이들이 학원에 안 가면 진도를 따라 갈 수 없다고 하기 때문이다.
